Title: Talk Talk Broadband Technical Support
Post by burning_starfire on May 26th, 2006 at 10:07am
Hi all,

First, just to say, think this kind of site is exactly what the internet is all about! Thanks so much!

Speaking of internet, I am currently on very temperamental dial-up connection because my new TalkTalk Broadband connection does not work. I have email about 7 times over the last couple of weeks trying to get someone to look into it, but as yet nothing.

I thought I would actually engage in one of my least favourite activies today - calling a telecom company's tech support - but then read that it is 10p a minute to call their automated tech support (which we all know will be about as useful as a chocolate teapot) and £2 per call to actually speak to a human being for something that I know is not my fault!

Anyway, the number is 08712267146. If anyone could give me a geographic number for this it would be great, and quite ironic because under my TalkTalk plan I get geographic numbers free of charge!

Many, many thanks,

Burning_Starfire

Clearly, you missed the, "Welcome to my web*, said the spider to the fly" smallprint when you signed up.

* No pun intended.

The 10ppm is standard for a 0871 number but it looks like the devilish TalkTalk have gone further by adding a £2 minimum call charge as well as the 10p/min  >:(

The best suggestion I can make is ring 0208 8965000 which is their head office and say you've been constantly trying to get through but can't, you don't have internet access whatsoever (don't mention you are using dial-up) and you are extremely unhappy, etc and you wish to make an official complaint, etc.

Apart from that, I'd recommend moving to a more reliable ISP as I believe things can only get worse with TalkTalk due to their offer.

If you are unfortunate enough to have signed-up to their 18month minimum term contract then you could threaten to leave on the grounds that they are not fullfilling their end of the contract in providing a broadband service.  If this is an ongoing issue (which I can imagine only getting worse) then there is the likelyhood that this may be your only way of getting out of such a long minimum term contract.

From the database we have:
  • 0800 0495050 Technical Faults number
  • 01925 554989 Broadband services (and faults)
  • 01925 554949 Customer services

All the entries above are now verified.[/edit]

In addition to the above, there are other Talk Talk numbers in the Say no to 0870 database. Go to the search page and enter Talk Talk into the Company name box and press Search (note the space in between the two words).  ;)

Search the database using the instructions I have given above.

If they won't put you through, then there's not a lot we can do.

If the enquiry is for a technical fault, then try the numbers above. If not, then this is a legitimate use of such a number. By paying 10p/min the caller is paying for the technician's time (I presume that you don't pay for support in any other way).

If you need technical help, some websites with forums you can post your problem on that I recommend are The Scream! and MoneySavingExpert.com Techie Stuff section. Someone will be able to help you on those sites.  ;)
