At last even the totally supine self-regulation and self-compliance loving Ofcom has been forced to fine a business for not complying with its rules!  And the total fine imposed is £175,000 on Kiss FM (EMAP) for numeorus serious breaches of good taste and decency on its morning breakfast show including phoning a guy who had been made redundant without obtaining his permission and posing as though they were the company's human resources officer.  Also numerous uses of bad language and inappropriate sexual language for the time of day. >:(

Now I'm sure £175,000 will make a really big dent on a business as large as EMAP won't it? ;) ::)

But still Ofcom has yet to fine a single Telco for misleading information about the cost of making phone calls or for anything else come to that.

Personally I would have that that a £500 million fine on BT group for the continued cynical misuse of the words Lo-Call and National Rate on its phone bills was more than overdue.

Now that the maginot line of actually fining businesses has been crossed perhaps we can hope to begin see Ofcom taking similar action against the large numbers of 084/7 scammers who continue to lie about the cost of making 084/7 calls. :-/
