Title: CPM UK Ltd - Missed calls from 08000 180888
Post by malcb on Aug 10th, 2006 at 4:42pm
Getting called by this number three or (often) more times a day now for the last week; anyone know who they might be or what they are up to?

Must be an automated dialler, even the most persistent cold caller would have realised by now that I really mean it when my call screening/answerphone message says I won't answer the phone unless you identify yourself first.

Well, it is a freephone number so you could call them (from a BT landline or BT payphone) - using 141 if you so wish.
And they have identified themselves by providing the 0800 number.
Of course it might be a false one that is not working?

It's a freephone number, and it gives a recording saying that you were called by CPM UK Limited on behalf on of their "blue chip clients whom you are likely to have an existing relationship with."

CPM UK website: http://www.uk.cpm-int.com/

List of CPM UK clients is here.

Thanks for doing the legwork that I was too lazy to do; I assumed this was going to be some sort of overseas approach or maybe a scam.  As I am TPS registered, should they be calling me at all?   Or does passing the gig on to a third-party exploit a loophole of some sort?  Thinking about it, maybe I didn't (or did) tick or not cross a box on a form in this or a previous existence, so they've probably got me.

Anyhoo, I shall nevertheless continue to ignore them - if the "blue chip" wants to talk to me badly enough, it will take the time to make a proper approach.

As an aside, CPM's Head Office is about 4 miles away and employs local people.  I'm sure that someone I know must know of someone (or who knows someone who knows  yadayada ya) who works for them; perhaps I can glean some more info as to why they do it this way.

Thanks again.

If you had the time, inclination, and was narked off enough by these people, then you could sit on the phone all day ringing this number from your landline ONLY, and just let their message play on. As it is likely to cost them 2p per min to accept your 0800 call.

I did this to someone who flyposted our area with those "Lose weight now, ask me how" loser posters. Left messages, or better still it would record for 3 mins, so you just leave it to record, then dial again. Just leaving one voice message a day to remind them why.
Suffice to say that they were not renewed once removed.

I'm surprise they weren't replaced with ones advertising an 0870 number!
