Title: Toll free number from Mobile
Post by cotton on Sep 14th, 2006 at 1:25pm
Hi,

I am calling India daily using Tata Indicom Toll free number from my mobile which is charged at standard rate since i dont have any phone at home or no near by public telephone.

I call this number 0800-169-8282.

Is there any alternative number because I can call free to local numbers in the eveneing and weekends from my mobile.

Thanks

Couldn't find the number that you are after, however this is a possible second method you could use, and it's cheaper.

https://services.vsnl.net/new/productDynamicTariff.jsp?tarrif=63
shows that the tariff for UK to India is 6.5 rupees per min.
www.xe.com   (a currency exchange rate site) shows 6.5 INR to be 0.0748643 GBP

www.18185.co.uk offer you India at 4p per min , land or mobile. For this you can use their 020 7001 9725 number.

You do have to register for this service.
So far I have not heard of any one with a problem regarding the security of their credit card.

Alternatively if you can get to use someone else's landline phone, you can call India Mobiles for 3p per minute using http://www.pennyphone.co.uk/rates.php and India landlines for 3p per minute using http://www.0844calls.co.uk/rates.php

So you have an alternative geographical number to call instead of the 0800 one.

Their will be no difference in the price to call them they are both London Geographical Numbers.
