Cheaptalk UK are offering landline to UK mobile calls for just 3p a minute via an 0844 number. This is a bargain price however I have not yet tried it. Has anyone had any experience of this company? Their webiste is http://www.cheapchatuk.co.uk/index.asp :)

I have just used the 0844 5991 348 number to make a 3p per minute daytime call and the line quality was excellent with no interference.

It always seems to be right up to date.

If you are using an 0844 number, the worst that can happen is you won't get through to the desired number, or that the line is bad. You won't find you are being charged a fortune. You might like to check the cost of calls to the number with your phone provider, but calls to an 0844 599 number on BT, for example, always cost 3p/min (+3p set-up fee), so you never have to worry about paying more.

If this reads right, then if you run out of Xnet mins on O2, you could dial cheapchat, and use them to connect for a lower cost that dialling the mobile directly.

*O2 Callers usually have to dial the number without the leading ‘0’.  There are some 0800 numbers, normally Telephone Helplines, which are free to call, for example: 0800 1111 (ChildLine), 0800 441111 (Bullying Helpline),  0800 400222 (ChildLine – Textphone), 0800 555111 (Crimestopper) and 0800 7383773 (0800 Reverse).

You can waste your money by calling it,and it will tell you to call the new premium number.

These dial-though numbers don't always just stop working. The old ones keep going even if new ones are advertised. Also, the same numbers sometimes appear on different websites under different brand names.

Cheapchatuk's website clearly states that calls to UK mobiles are now 20p per minute. Martin did say that he did not expect it to last long and he was spot on. I'm going back to using 18185 at 5p a minute (weekdays)

I am fully aware of that thank you. The number still works and when you ring it and try to dial a UK Mobile it tells you to ring the premium number.

I hope it says how much it costs! Who's going to use the premium rate number when it costs more than calling the mobile directly?

More likely it's because the initial promotional period is over, and they never intended to make a loss by letting you ring European mobiles for 3p a minute indefinitely

I agree with Andy9.

That's why I've been wary about using such providers as its impossible for them to sustain these prices as it costs them a lot more money to carry the call than they are charging us consumers hence why they generally are only short-term offers.

I'd personally stick with 18185 who have kept their prices stable.

Thanks for that info DG101, 10p per minute is certainly the new rate, that's a whopping a 100% increase in their price and they haven't even e-mailed their customers to let us know.

Surprisingly their website shows that it is still 6p per minute to call mobiles using the 0808 1 703 703 number (which ntl users have to use). However if you use this you still get charged at 10p per minute according to the message just before connection. Ntl users can elect not to hear this announcement in which case they would be overcharged by 4p per minute for each mobile call. Hmmmm, perhaps Trading Standards would be interested in their misleading prices.

Discountdial (callthrough, dialling 0844-5663566) is still 5p per minute. I believe thats the best there is at the moment.

Whilst the site info says 10p. The announcement says 6p and they still only charge 6p a min.

Also they also still say 6p a min for cable/mobile customers.

Just checked 18185's call charges to mobiles on weekdays.

The message for BT customers using the access code 18185 states 6p per minute.
The message for cable users using the 0808 1 703703 states 10p per minute.

18185's Website shoe it the opposite way around ie.
10p for BT Customers
6p for Cable users

I would suggest that they have got their Website prices the wrong way around and that you will get charged the price given to you prior to the call connecting.
