Title: Huddersfield University - Storthes Hall
Post by wifco on Oct 10th, 2006 at 12:23pm
Can anyone assist with finding an alternative number for the student village at Stothes Hall? To call my son I have to phone 0870-853-xxxx, where xxxx is his room extension.

Its probably 01424 ??xxxx.

Thanks - another ripped-off parent!

There is another thread on University of Huddersfield here.

The code for Huddersfield is 01484.

Can you provide some more information on the phone system used? What is the provider? Examples include Dog n Bone Zone and Keytalk's Keycom.

The prefix 0870 853 is allocated to Telewest, change dated 01/2002.

Huddersfield prefixes allocated to Telewest (followed by their change dates) are:
  • 01484 38 05/1996
  • 01484 39 06/1997

Try these followed by the last four digits of the extension. Note that this is in no way a cast iron theory for finding the numbers to these systems, but it has worked for some.

When your son calls out, does a number appear on the receiver's caller display? If so, what is/are the number(s)?

Dave,

Many thanks.

After much experimentation I've found the prefix is 01484 60XXXX
but it doesn't accept incoming calls!!!

Main reception is 01484 488816, out of hours emergency is 01484 488804. Will try ringing these and ask to be transferred.

How have you got this number then?

It is allocated to BT, change dated 07/1994, the earliest date there is shown in Ofcom's records. My BT Phone Book Companion from October 1998 shows that 01484 60 is Kirkburton, so this could be an outgoing number only.
