I am looking for the geographical number for the number 0870-75995XX. It is a number in Chantry Court, a Student Residence Block in the University of Bristol run by UNITE. I am a new student here and I want people from back home to be able to phone me!
I'd be so grateful of your help.

The page for this residence is here. Other UNITE residences here. I gather it's a private company, so it's probably completely separate to the university's own accommodation. If this is the case, then continue this thread.

0870 759 is allocated to Your Communications, change date 05/1996.

Within Bristol there is one prefix allocated to YC and that is 0117 333, change date 02/1998.

Try 0117 333 followed by the last four digits of your internal number.

Please let us know what works and what doesn't.  :)

Hi, thanks for the info. I found that 0117 333 plus the last 4 digits doesnt work. All Bristol numbers have to start 01179 anyway, did you know this?

Try 0117 3330 xxx, 0117 3331 xxx etc

Where xx is the last three digits of your extension.

Regarding numbers in Bristol starting 9, the reason for this is because they used to be 6 digits long. Numbers were prefixed with 9, to allow loads more numbers to be created. 0117 333 is a new prefix since these changes took place.

Do they use VOIP or normal phones as there may not be one?

I'm in purbeck house, bournemouth but our phones are part of the uni's network not unite so we get 01202 which is good. The U-Broadband looks awful though as well. Can you use skype / voipcheap etc on your network?
