Some doctors surgeries seem to have been sold 0844 numbers which go through some central system. The number they gave me is 08444772551.
The old number for my doctor's surgery now links to the health visitors - not reception - and is usually inviting caller to leave a message. ~ Edit by Dave: Thread title amended |

In most cases, surgeries that have moved to 0844x numbers are using a telephony system known as Surgery Line by NEG Plc.
NEG Plc do not appear to want the surgery to know the real underlying geographical number so it would be extremely difficult to find such an alternative if the only people that are most likely aware of it is NEG Plc. Your surgery and NEG Plc earn money from each call so it is not in the interest of NEG Plc to release a geographical number. This applies to most (if not all) surgeries/medical centres that have an 0844 number. |
