So you should have said who it belongs to, if you knew.
What other details you have for it, if you have them.
And also importantly, to what service the number applied. This bit you do know.

08444970202 is a number you can dial from an O2 phone to get cheap international access, and belongs to http://www.yourcallworld.com/O2/default.aspx

This is a legitimate use of the 0844, and I very much doubt if the true number can be found, or if in fact anybody here will make the effort to help find it.

Your choice of number is not the only one available, should the service ever shut down.
In fact we can, and will help you better if you tell us where you want to dial so that we may provide alternative numbers that you could use from both land and mobile.

thanks so much for the prompt response ! i thot there was an alternative geographical num. for the number posted, which will allow me make a free call via Voip on the net. i'm actually looking for a cheap rate call to nigeria mobiles. Thanks

I agree with AVNM.  In most cases companies/government departments using 084x/087x numbers are doing so purely for the money they can receive from.  In this case, the number is for a dial-through operator and as a dial-through operator purely makes it's money from the use of the call (ie you don't pay anything else at all) and that the service they offer actually saves us money compared to using the main providers like BT, TalkTalk, Telewest/NTL, etc then this is why we don't try and look for alternatives in this case.

For example, if an alternative number was found and everyone rung it then the company wouldn't be able to make a profit and instead would make a loss and the service would end which could then force us to resort to paying really expensive rates from the likes of TalkTalk, BT, Telewest/NTL, etc.

From a BT landline (maybe more from other landline providers) then the cheapest is 7p/min via www.cheapestchat.com (this is a pay up front provider).  The next cheapest is www.0844calls.co.uk.

For calls to Nigeria landlines then calls are 1p/min also 0844calls.co.uk.

Thanks for that, my post was originally for calls to Nigeria landlines as I misread the post.  I've now corrected my post and it mentions the cost to both Nigeria landlines and mobiles.

www.niftylist.co.uk gives up a 6p a minute supplier www.cheapestcalls.co.uk

However if you look at Cheapest Chat site some Nigerian Mobile Rates are as little as 2.6p a minute.

In this case Niftylist gives a cheaper call rate than Moneysavingepert.  Does anybody have an idea how the two lists are compiled? Martin Lewis certainly claims to update Moneysavingexpert daily but somehow I doubt it. In fact I know that for calls from UK landlines to UK mobiles it is not up to date.

The "cheapestchat" per minute rate may be the lowest but this is frontloaded by a £1.50 charge before one even starts speaking, i.e. it may be economical for long calls but not for short ones.

I've heard that they are about to introduce a call rate of only 1.3p a minute to UK mobiles on the Misprint network
