Title: BT callout charge

Not sure where to post this as it certainly isn't cheap but it appears that BT has just increased its callout charge to £118.00!

This charge applies where a fault is reported and found to be on the customer's equipment instead of BT's part of the circuit. So it's quite reasonable to charge for an engineer's time in this way.

If you changed to another line rental supplier, you might find that was a bargain!

But when BT replaced a master socket (NTTP) rotted through damp they charged my company, because they reckoned that the eighteen month old socket's rot was our fault. They would not accept that an adjacent ten year old patchpanel (their socket was installed in the patchpanel) and electronic switch (an INDeX since you ask) still functioned perfectly. Grrr - even if they did eventually refund half.

I do realise that the charge only applies when the fault is in ones property but it is nonetheless very steep compared with callout charges for say washingmachine or TV repairs. I believe it only covers the first hour and is a very sharp rise. I had occasion to call out a bt engineer about a year or so ago in connection with my Internet cutting out. It was deemed by him to be caused by my equipment and I had to pay around £50.00.
