The 0845 number you quote is Derbyshire Constabulary's rip-off non-emergency number which most probably goes through to a central switchboard.

Pear Tree is an area and policing section of Derby. See here: http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/local/77.html

Thanx,

Is there no way of getting the geo number then for this? If not I'll just have to ring the 0845 number

The number prefix 0845 123 is allocated to Affiniti Integrated Solutions Ltd, a subsiduary of Kingston Communications.

The case study for Derbyshire Constabulary on Affiniti's website is here.

Quote:
Like many modern police forces, Derbyshire Constabulary is committed to providing its local communities with an effective, caring service that is also good value for money. As such the force is always looking for ways to improve the service it offers.

Traditionally the Constabulary's call traffic was handled by another supplier with some calls being routed over the police national network (PNN2). However, Derbyshire felt there was room for improvement of its existing service and was keen to reduce call charges where possible and implement better connectivity to the UK core telephone network.

[...]

Peter Mitchell, the force's telecommunications manager explains: "Members of the public had to dial any one of four different geographically-based telephone numbers across the county in order to access the Constabulary's non-emergency services," he says. "This led to confusion and, on many occasions, people dialled 999 instead and so tied up vital emergency lines."

To simplify contact with local police, a single telephone number for non-emergency calls was introduced for use across the whole of Derbyshire. Members of the public can call this cost-effective 0845 number to reach a call centre operator who can quickly help them with their enquiry.

Which, of course, is ½p/min more than us with free evening and weekend calls would have to pay to call any 01 or 02 number today.

Bearing in mind Deryshire police are the idiots who wouldn't publish the photographs of two escaped murderers in case doing so breached their human rights, I'd dial 999.

192.com returns 01773 570 101 as the number for the police station. Can you give that one a go and see if it works?

As identified above, the system has been installed by Affiniti. There is one prefix beginning 01773 allocated to it and it is 01773 73

01773 730199 has just been answered as "Derbyshire Police". Other nearby numbers ring and may also be suitable.

Others such as 730180 and 181 ring after a delay, so could be diverted to a mobile.

I found this number by calling 730100 which I found gives "The number you have dialled has not been recognised". 730200 on the other hand is NU (number unobtainable) - a single tone. This suggests to me that it (and nearby numbers) are infact allocated to a particular subscriber, probably as part of a DDI block of numbers (of which NU ones are not used by the subscriber), whereas "not recognised" is not allocated to any subscriber. I tried nearby numbers and hey presto!

At the bottom of Derbyshire Constabulary's contact page it says:

Quote:
Calls from overseas

An exclusive telephone number of 01773 730215 is provided for the exclusive use of overseas callers only.

Looking at the wording, I wouldn't put it past them if they screen calls and ensure that they are non-UK calls to this number.  :-X
