Title: Ofcom Claims It Listens to Citizen Consumers???
Post by NGMsGhost on Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:11am
Ofcom have just sent me an email with a link to this report they have just published on them supposedly taking all possible steps to listen to the views of UK citizen consumers.  :-? :-/ ::)

www.ofcom.org.uk/about/accoun/interests.pdf

Looks like a load of tick box politically correct and meaningless window dressing to me and that in reality nothing will actually change and the views of real citizen consumers will continue to be ignored.

I see they had a launch event for this new approach back in November where they invited a load of citizen consumer stakeholders along but mysteriously they failed to invite either me or anyone else involved in the www.saynoto0870.com campaign as far as I can tell.  And boy oh boy are we not stakeholders who have persistently tried as hard as we can to engage with Ofcom only to have the door repeatedly slammed rudely in our faces! :o >:( :'(

On Page 12 of this report it says

Quote:
"The Consumer Experience" publication and launch event in November 2006 was attended by over fifty consumer stakeholders, who welcomed Ofcom's emphasis on the impact of its regulatory decisions on consumers.  We will respond to feedback for those who attended for the 2007 Consumer Experience publication, and provide greater granularity in research, particularly in relation to the experience of older and disabled people.

In other words Ofcom only cares about the views of politically correct minorities who probably have no strong views on the core issues such as NTS where Ofcom is still deliberately trying to rig things to make life as easy as possible for the profitability of its old buddies back in the major telcos.

So they only listen to feedback from the 50 consumer patsies who they have invited along and who were no doubt specifically handpicked to not rock the Ofcom boat.  And they suggest they will have more granularity in future.  Does that imply letting the views of consumers who do not suit the needs of Ofcom's telecoms business buddies fall conveniently through the large holes in the sieve Ofcom clearly use to catch the very few views of consumers that happen to agree with the way that Ofcom does things?

Then that would imply Ofcom is negligent by falling down on those sections of society to whom it owes its principal duty under Section 3 (i) of the Communications Act 2003. i.e.  UK Citizens and UK Consumers.

So far as I can tell nowhere in the Communications Act 2003 is the profitability of UK communications businesses mentioned as being Ofcom's principal duty. ;) ::) >:(
