one of my friends had to call french embassy to get an appointment for a visa. the only number they have is a 09 number with £1/min . what a day time robbery is it? >:(

There have been other threads on this issue. It appears that ALL embassies do the same. It probably sorts out the "tyre kickers".

And - let me assure you, this is one area where it appears to be a world-wide situation. It is not constrained to 'Rip-Off Britain".

I don't think there is any way round this. The saving grace is that it is - hopefully - not something you do frequently. ;)
