Title: OneTel Pal Box - 0870 606 1232
Post by jarwyn on Apr 4th, 2007 at 2:10pm
Hi everyone, new to this site so I'm just learning the ropes.

Hopefully someone can help with the following problem. We've just received our BT Phonebill and listed on the bill about 20 or 30 times is the number 0870 606 1232.

I've tried calling it and just get a continuous (disconnected) tone. I've called BT about it and after asking a load of questions about the equipment that's connected to the phone they said they were unable to help.

We have Sky TV and AOL Broadband connected to the line, and a OneTel 'Pal Box' which filters our calls. The calls themselves were usually for less than a minute and a cost of around 3p.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

The OneTel box thing is the relevant part - put the number into Google (no spaces) and you'll see.

Disconnect that OneTel box!

And get yourself a decent provider or two!

Thanks everyone.

I did do a google before posting but with the spaces, so it didn't come up. I've now confirmed with OneTel that it's their box that's the problem. As for getting myself a decent provider, I'm with you on that but unfortunately it's not my call (if you'll forgive the pun!).

Cheers anyway.

What does the OneTel 'Pall Box' do and why does it need to call this number?  :-/

IIRC, it was one of the early dialler boxes - inserting OneTel's (1877 or 1878) prefix before every call (so the subscriber couldn't forget to do so).

I have no idea why it should suddenly start dialling this 0870 number though.
