Title: Virgin Media blocks cheaper dial-through providers
Post by Dave on Apr 6th, 2007 at 6:35am
Virgin Media are apparently blocking calls to 0844/0871 and other dial through numbers that allow cheaper call rates. This is discussed on MSE here.

I have always thought it to be ridiculous that only BT must provide access to all numbers. What is the point in having a telephone line which does not allow the subscriber to call all numbers?

Presumably, this will be applied to cable (ex-NTL/Telewest) and standard landline customers.

In the latter case, time to jump ship (there are much better deals out there).

I totally agree.  It's wrong that an OCP can choose which calls to carry and which not to.  It's bad enough that they already have near enough complete freedom with regards to the pricing of their calls (BT has only limited freedom) and can charge significantly higher for a certain call range/number compared to other providers.
