Phoning the number on The Passport Office website - 0871 310 8350 - is a complete (and costly - 10p per min) waste of time as all you will hear is a very slowly spoken message telling you to 'phone another number - 0906 665 8045 - which costs £1.50 per min! I'm pretty sure there used to be an alternative number on saynoto0870, but none was found this time...

I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the 0871 number or 0906 number is (you haven't said and I'm not dialling them to find out!), but the 'normal' enquiries number is 0870 5210410 which can be reached by calling the Home Office's main number, 020 70354848, and selecting the appropriate option.

I believe it is the UK Passport Information scam again - www.ukpi.org.

How on earth they get away with running this - doesn't the government do anything about this obvious scam?!
