Just had a call, possibly a cold caller asking for me. When I checked the number via 1471 it was given as 031 something. Does anyone know where this is? Apart from the old code for Edinburgh I didn't know that the UK had any 03 codes!!

This is the new NGN code to "replace" the revenue sharing 0870 numbers and should attract a normal call charge, it is not designated to an area,similar to 087/084 numbers

Thanks Derrick, for the record the number given that called me was: 031 516 8353 so you can see it looks like an old Edinburgh number at first. I trust that before giving these out they have checked that they isn't an 0131 516 8353 as I can see folks inserting the 1 that isn't there in the code.

Are you sure it was 031? According to the Ofcom website (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/telecoms/ioi/numbers/num_user_guide#2), only ranges 030, 033, 034 and 037 are being allocated - not 031.

yes, it's certainly given as 031 516 8353 on dialling 1471, had to listen to it a few times as I didn't recognise the code at first. Haven't dialled it to see if it works or who it was.

And surely a digit missing? 3 digit code 8 digit (2x4 digits) number. Or is Ofcom messing up again?
