Title: The Dropping of NGN
Post by jaydog on Jul 18th, 2007 at 2:27pm
I am not sure if anyone else has noticed anything in their area (I am in Somerset / Wilts) area and over the last few days I have noticed many orgs and companies who used to have NGN 08,09 etc number are now showing 01,02 numbers I spotted another this morning. On Friday they were an 0870 today they now have the 01 number advertised on their website.

Fingers crossed for more people waking up to this.

Jay

Hi jaydog,

Welcome to the site.

Ofcom’s own research shows that consumers are reluctant to use 087x and 084x numbers.  Maybe firms are now realising that they are losing business by not using 01/02 numbers.   When I come across a firm using only an 087x/084x number,  I often inform them, by email, that they have just lost my business.

One interesting point for those who have 0870s but do not want to move to 0871 is that if they stay on 0870 they are going to start being charged a service fee for the number of incoming calls they get a month but if they move back to 01/02 they won't.

Could this be why some with 0870s are now starting to go back to 01/02?

Thanks for the welcome kk, I will also try using the email method when I spot a site using NGN in the future. NGMsGhost I did not realise well good news for us paying folk. Lets hope others follow the trend and dump the 0870 numbers.

Yes but unfortunately the shysters at Ofcom and ICSTIS have invented the more profitable and almost identically numbered option of 0871s to move to at 10p per minute at all times.

So the only companies who will move back to 01/02 or 03 will be those who were conned and are not getting a revenue share but were told that 0870 numbers were more modern or somthing ridiculous like that.
