Well, it isn't a valid non-geographic for a start - do you mean 08707 87 87 20 (I've spaced it out to make it clearer to read)?

Please can you provide more information as specified in the guide - where are they located? Website? Then we might be able to help you more.

Why don't you just phone them on their 0870 number? Their website says:

It seems to be that companies using non-geographic numbers have cottoned onto the fact that some people thing that 087x and 084x numbers might be considered premium rate. That is the second time I've seen a website saying an 087x or 084x number wasn't premium rate (although we all know that it should be!)

I sent an e-mail to these people pointing out the wrongs of this number, and received the following:-


Thank you for your email regarding the above.

The statement on our site in the contact us section is actually a throwback to the times when we first started using 0870 numbers (around 1998 I believe).  At that time the statement made was entirely accurate (according to our telecoms providers) but since then the situation has changed.  We did in fact make the same statement at various other points on the site and in our other promotional material and following changes to the rules these references were removed.

The statements will be removed from our site very shortly and we will obviously undergo a review of other items to ensure that customers receive correct information.

As you are no doubt aware the rules surrounding 0870 (and other 08XX number ranges) are about to change and we will of course ensure that whatever route we choose to take for the future, all regulations will be complied with.

To correct one of your points, according to Offcom, under current regulations 0870 numbers are not within the definition of premium rate numbers.

A Google of insurance "15 landsdowne road" croydon returns entries that make mention of Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance and RSA Insurance.

Whois roadrunnerinsurance.co.uk (that's a look-up of the registration information for that internet address) shows the registrant to be RSA Insurance Group plc.

So it would appear that we may be looking for a contact number for RSA Insurance...

RSA is Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance
