Title: UCAS
Post by Ringtone123 on Aug 16th, 2007 at 1:05pm
It was announced on BBC1 lunchtime news today that over 7900 calls had already been made to UCAS by A level students who had just received their results and were concerned about university places. The number given out by the BBC for students to ring was an 0870 one, although a geographical alternative appears on this website. I wonder how many students would be bothered to seek an alternative. Just imagine the revenue generated, especially since many of these calls would have been made on mobiles

In case anyone was wondering, the geographical alternative for UCAS's 0870 11 222 11 number is 01242 223707

Title: UCAS - "problems with 0870 numbers..."

Oh poor UCAS, it seems that they are having some issues with their 0870 numbers. No worries, what number do they give in place of it... an 0871 number (9p a minute in case you were wondering).

It is completely ridiculous (though not entirely surprising really) that an organisation that has to deal with students (and should know that students use mobiles almost exclusively) would be publishing a number that costs up to 35p a minute from said mobiles!

Why do the mobiles charge 25p more than BT?
Why do mobiles need to charge rip-off rates for 0845, 0844, 0870, 0871 and....
....wait for it 0800?
35p for a free call that they get paid to send to BT, now that's rich!  >:(
What's Ofcom doing about mobile overcharging - nothing, they even tried to stop the EU capping roaming charges.

Hey Guys,

The UCAS number that is listed in the confirmed numbers page no longer works. The ones in the unconfirmed column also do not work. The switchboard number, however, DOES work and gives the menu from the 0871 number. I reccomend you change this.

Also, would UCAS be worth an FOI? Or can we even do one?

Cheers Guys

Minardi
