If you didn't recognise the number, why on earth did you call back?

Never phone back a number you don't know. I have heard of a scam, when someone did that they got a nasty surprise on their next phone bill. |

You do ofcourse realise that the code 0121 is the area code for Birmingham?

"0121 708" is a BT allocated number from 1994. Possible it is now owned by someone else, but you never know. Could be a business or personal number... if it cuts out dead, it is likely to be an outgoing call centre number.

I just got a phone call from 0121 708 4055, googled the number and found this place. It was some call centre - Total something - asking if they could help me reclaim bank charges. After a bit of an argument about whether the guy calling had ever heard of the TPS (he tried to change the subject back to bank charges very quickly, saying he wasn't trying to sell me anything- I was having none of that), he apologised for calling then rung off.

Hi BM,
Have you signed up as a phone number that does not accept junk/spam calls? I won't stop organisations with whom you have had a relationship (eg a charity) but it will much reduce the problem of: "Your are waiting for an important 'phone call, but you have just got in the shower, when the 'phone rings and yes dripping with water, there is no point in trying to sell you double glazing, because ........". If you are on a land line do a 1471 to double check the caller - it it is unknown or withheld or different I would not call back the number in the message. But in a household with several adults in it, it is sometimes difficult to understand for whom the message is intended. Harry. PS Not wanting to hijack your your thread; I have had two unwanted calls from a number starting 0795......... which I would think was something to do with mobiles(?!?) Can someone point me at a link to the meanings of all the prefixes. |

I've sussed it myself - it is "T-Mobile". I won't slag them off just yet because at my third attempt at calling the company (where the staff refuse to give their surnames), I got through to someone who said they would attempt to do something about the user of the phone, who has hijacked my identity and is probably on his way to wrecking my credit rating.

I was just called on my BT line by this number 0121 708 4055 too.
I answered and was asked if I thought my bank had over charged me. I said no, and the man hung up, how rude!! :( I called the number back and got a message saying something like ocean consumer research. I've already gone through all the BT options, months ago, to stop these calls but still the odd one seems to slip through. I hope this helps you out. |
