The existing thread for Loughborough University accommodation is here. However, it is apparently a Keycom system and the 0870 numbers are different. I therefore think that the two systems are different.
Website for NTL at Uni Loughborough: http://www.ntlatuni.com/loughborough.aspx Loughborough NTL number prefixes, followed by change dates: 01509 00 06/2001 01509 55 12/1995 01509 56 07/1999 01509 724 06/2006 01509 725 06/2006 01509 82 07/1994 Interestingly, the Keycom system uses NTL numbers: 01509 82. If it turns out to be 01509 00 then it will probably not be diallable from some providers. This type of number is known as a "national-dialling only" number because the number following the code is a 0, thus the code must be dialled even from a line with a 01509 number. Can you shed any more light on why there are two systems? Can you dial to extensions within the university from your room's phone without dialling it as an outside number? |

I think the forest court is uses different system. Because even is a hall provided by Loughborough University, but it is accommodation actually belong to the company call "Derwent Living". The other halls which belong to the university are uses Keycom, but the forest court 0870 telephone line is provided by NTL. So I can not dial to extensions within the university from my room.....it has to dialling it as a n outside number.
I try dialling 01509 82 and 0150900, but doesn't seem to work...... |

Can you dial other rooms within your accommodation block (and possibly others operated by the same company) internally?
Do you know how many rooms (extensions) are there? |

Yes, I can dial other rooms internally (the last 4 number).
the hall comprises 144 study bedrooms, divided into 36 flats for 4 people. |

So your internal numbers are four digits? Is there 1 phone per "study bedroom" or 1 phone per flat? Are the extension numbers 4 digits? When you call out, does the caller see a number on their caller display? |

It's 1 phone per "study bedroom". students live in this hall can call each other use the 4 digits internal ext numbers. If people call me from outside have to call 0870012 followed by the last 4 digits of the room extension number. on the other hand, if I wanna make outgoing call by use the phone in my room i have to buy a phone card.
I already used my phone card to made an external call, the number display in my friend's moblie is 01159100***. But when She called this number, it display "user busy"......but when she call the 0870 number it work. |

Right, that's a key piece of information !!! 0115 is Nottingham and the thread for Nottingham University is here. The Nottingham system uses 0870 numbers in the same range and also gives the same 0115 number when calls are made from the phones. It is also interesting that you have four digit extensions but only 144 phones. 3-digits would be adequate. So perhaps this helps explain the need for 4-digit extensions. What if you want to dial a Loughborough (01509) number? Do you have to dial the 01509 code, or can you dial the 6-digit number, prefixed with whatever you need to get an outside line? Going by the information on the Nottingham thread, the prefix is 0115 005 followed by the last four digits of the 0870 or extension. (Are they different? - if so, let us know which it is). I mentioned "national dialling only" numbers above. This is one as the "local" part of the number begins with 0, and therefore the code must always be dialled. Some networks don't allow these numbers to be called. If you have an Orange mobile or NTL (Virgin Media) landline, then you might be able to dial it directly. Just because you can't dial it from one particular phone doesn't mean that it's not the right number. Do let us know what works and whether the last four digits of the geographical number are the extension or the 0870 or if these are both the same anyway. |
