What other numbers have you tried? I couldn't find any numbers in the database. 192.com reveals the following number - 020 7589 8989. Have you tried that?

Have tried

020 7589 8989
020 7594 4921
020 7594 4919
020 7594 4924/25

and they all say for me to try the premium rate number, 09065 540 714 which apparently is owned and run by Cablecom on behalf of the embassy.

Using the number to book an appointment can take between 10 to 15 minutes at £1 a minute(rip off just to get an appoitment).

Thanks

This might be the Cablecom (Productions) which the Spanish Consulate refer to:

http://www.cablecom.com/

"Specialists in Telephone and Internet Marketing Applications" (and revenue generation from booking telephone numbers)

There is also a Cablecom Productions Ltd in London. Not much known about it but they have a contact number - 020 7409 1002.

Hi Guys, my wife applied to this embassy in writing and provided all the documents they requested. Today she receives a letter from them saying her requested appointment date is not available and instead of them suggesting an alternative day/time, they have asked her to call 09065 540 714 to book an alternative appointment.. a joke and a blooming rip off if it takes 10mins to book this appointment via the 09 number....

If anyone knows of a direct number, please let me know

Um... surely the point of this thread is to find an alternative to the 09 number. Saying you have to call the 09 number isn't exactly helpful...

But at £1.50 per minute the geo number would be a closely guarded secret and to use the 09 number is probably the only way! Just from interest I do not recall having seen any alternatives for 09 numbers, are they set up in the same way as other non-geos? I have tried to speak to the Spanish Consulate re a Spanish NIE number, just keep getting in a loop but no human to speak to. The spanish preamble does give a number for Spaniards to dial, I did once manage to speak to an operator who gave me another number to dial which was unobtainable! Spanish bureaucracy grinds you down until you give up!

Yes, 09 numbers work just like 08 numbers. Dave recently found a whole host of 020 numbers that pointed to old ITV competitions and things like ITV Play. However, as your state, the alternatives are generally well-kept secrets to ensure that they are not found out because that would make their use pointless (don't forget, the revenue isn't collected on the underlying number - it is the 09 number that generates it!)

I had a big hunt once, couple of years ago,  for the underlying number for QuizCall's 09 number - after they took several calls which were destined for a chineese takeaway!!  I spent ages working on common misdialings of all the numbers I could find for takeaways of that name in their approximate area..    I note that their T&Cs now say they might ask for 'phone bills if they come to award a prize.  (I'm banned from entering, now, anyway, presumably after winnning too much on their free web entry route...)

Well they've changed it all now, but time was you submitted a webform, and there was about a 1-in-20 chance of getting a call back from the studio, then you sat in a queue for a couple of mins, with maybe a further 1-in-20 chance of being put through to actually give your answer.   The "secret" to getting on-air was to submit LOTS of web entries, spread across multiple phone numbers, each with forward-on-busy to the next, so you never missed a call.

Of course, when you get through, you have to know the answer!  With the puzzles, once you worked out how they calculated the answers, this was fairly easy.  Of course, working out the method was pretty difficult - see here for examples of how TGBBQ calculated theirs - Quizcall was usually only slightly less cryptic.  Once they moved over to mostly guessing games (Name ten items starting with "B") then there was little point in entering.
