Title: New Intl Access Geographical No from Pre-Dial.
Post by moneysavin on Dec 27th, 2007 at 3:04am
Pre-Dial have launched a 01 geographical access number which operates 24/7 and gives access to many destinations.

See http://groups.google.com/group/uk.telecom/browse_thread/thread/3576cda8ff1ec149?hl=en for full details.

Handy if you have inclusive 01/02/03 minutes. :)

Not sure if I am missing something, but I won't use a company that tries to con it's users, (non of those numbers are "national rate").;-

"Call Internationally for as little as 4p per minute using our two national rate numbers

0871 504 0700

7 days a week.

0870 068 0700

Weekdays only."

http://www.pre-dial.com/

0870 0680700;-     * This is classified as a Special Services higher rate: BT’s Standard National Call Retail Price for BT customers number.  (insert by me, these will cost 6ppm daytime).
   * It is provided by Magrathea Telecommunications Limited.

0871 5040700;-      * This is classified as a Special Services higher rate: up to and including 10p for BT customers (non-internet) number.
   * It is provided by Magrathea Telecommunications Limited.
   * And costs 10ppm [in pence or pounds where 'pm' means 'per minute' and 'pc' means 'per call'].

Yes their Geographical Intl Access Number which was the sole point of my post.

Their website is indeed very jaded and incorrect and could do with updating/correcting . :)

It works from UK mobiles and UK landlines - so if you have a landline calls package giving you free (or inclusive) UK calls (or just evening and weekend UK calls), this is available to you too.

So how much would some one who has inclusive minutes,("free"), for W/E & evening calls on their landline be charged to call a mobile using the number,( 01793 238280. ), given on the linked page? I cannot see that being free!

And would the same be from mobiles,i.e. could I call the 01793 number to call a mobile? Is it the same as using a "dial through" 084 number and if so how is it funded.

It really does seem like a free lunch, and usually these are not free!

derrick, if you can't be bothered to read about it yourself there's no need to suggest that the firm is deceiving people or to discuss destinations (mobiles) they don't actually list

That might be true, as I also clicked on the link at the bottom of the page the OP linked to,( in my post#1), as the poster,(Mikael Armstrong),  had it at the bottom of their post therefore I assumed it was all part and parcel of the same thing!

However I have just tried the 01793 number on voip and all I get is the phone cut off after about 5 rings and the message;-"call ended, the other party ended the call" there was no answer and I have tried it 3 times.

Someone has pointed out here that the service does drop from time to time. I assume that they only have a few lines and so drop calls when so many people are using it. It apparently also works with 080x numbers too in the UK, so useful if you need to dial an 080x number from your mobile.

That would be me!   :)

I've tried the number at various times.  Last night I called three or four times in a row and got dumped each time, only getting through about 10 minutes later on the next attempt.   I just (4 p.m.-ish) called three times in a row, and was connected immediately every time.

Ah, hello :).

I've not tried it myself (don't really have any reason to call the US or anywhere outside the UK) but came across your post when I did a Google for the number.

The little I've used it so far it seems to be reasonable, other than the occasional busy periods.    I call the U.S. fairly regularly; I've been using 18185, but as I have free U.K. evening calls, this one gives completely free calls to the States for me.

Audio quality is reasonable enough so far -- Not the best perhaps, but certainly acceptable for the price!

I can't understand why some people are talking really badly about this access number , I have used this numbers to call USA,SINGAPORE,SWITZERLAND etc without much problems, couple of times disconnected . As  long it is GN i dont mind that (free lunch- in UK!!!!!!!!).
May be we will get few more destinations in fututre, many thanks to this service.

It certainly works, but not for short dial numbers overseas.  It would appear that it goes via satellite, so there is a delay of about a quarter of a second, which to some people can be annoying, but if it is OK with the other person, then fine.

For example, one number that does not work with it is 00 46 8 90510 which is the Swedish Speaking Clock.  That can be dialed via ASDA Call time for 2p per minute, and via BT or Virgin Media at their international rates, but because the number is too short, it will not work with this number.

However, I used the 01793 number to dial Ireland and Sweden and it seems to work OK, but for the problem of the quarter second delay.

Well done to the service provider in this case!

01793 238280 no longer works.  Does anyone have an alternative?  Pre-Dial uses 0207 127 9980 for pre-paid service, and that number is on their website.  Howeve,r obviously you have to register first.

There are some 0270 and 0871 numbers which do just say "Please dial the number you wish to call". (you then dial the number you want after that). It is one of these I am looking for.  Can anyone help?

Do you mean 0207 not 0270 ? as far as i am aware their are no London 020 Geographical Gateway Numbers operating unless you have an account with a supplier like http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php

For news on the 01793 Number see : http://www.foneforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,6.0.html
