In an effort to convince government departments and even companies, we need to find the cheapest provider for 03x numbers.

Having done a quick search, I've found Global Telecom who charge 1.9ppm (peak rate) for receiving calls on one of their 03 numbers.

If anyone can find a cheaper supplier, or one of similar comparison then post details.

I've got an 03 number from A&A.  Costs me £1+vat rental/month.  Larger blocks of numbers cost MUCH less each. NO incoming call charges for calls delivered via VOIP.

That cheap enough?

It depends really.  If they've said they're looking into an 03x then you could mention which is the cheapest supplier (as far as we know) and chances are it'll be cheaper than BT and some other main communication providers that the police may use.

If they've not even looked at 03 then you have to convince the police force stating Ofcom, etc recommend the use of 03x by public sector.  Giving the police a rough idea of the cheapest supplier of 03x numbers I cant see that it hurts us in any way.  In fact, I believe it would help because some police forces (and some other government depts) use BT as their 0845 supplier so passing this information on could help them change suppliers or maybe even negotiate a cheaper deal with their current supplier to make it that slightly more desirable to migrate to 03x.

That's fine for those using VoIP but chances are they'll want their potential 03x number diverted to a geographic number.  I couldn't work out if A&A charge (and if so, how much) for incoming calls to an 03x where the number is diverted to a geographical instead of VoIP.

The control panel has options to ring on normal numbers in various circumstances..  I am presuming that they will charge rates on a par with their normal outgoing rates to forward to another 01/02 .  Prices for these are here and are 1.25p - 1.5p /min (inc vat) for UK landlines.

Personally, I find delivery over VOIP pretty easy.  I've been using an old Fujitsu FDX-840 (reflashed with the dlink DVG-1120S firmware) which allowed seamless integration with a voice line.  (I'm using an asterisk box now, which gives me even more control.)    I guess that it depends on existing infrastructure that needs to be integrateed with as to how practical it is in any given application, though.
