Does anyone have a view on this service offering ?  On the face of it, it seems reasonable for some international destinations but then they fail to mention that the cost of calls to 0844 is more than 2p from many providers.

The other side of their business is of course the perpetuation of 0870 which is not going to go down well here !

They use 2p a minute 24/7 0844 numbers from a landline.

They do in fact state.
"Can I call from my mobile to their landline
Yes – But the cost of a call to a 0844 number from a mobile will vary depending on service provider. "

The cost of calling 0844 numbers from a BT landline varies between ½p and 5p per minute depending on the 4th, 5th and 6th digits of the number (see the BT Specialised Numbers Price List) but, in this case, the firm allocates 0844 numbers which are charged at g9 (2p per minute including VAT at all times) rate.

Some other calls providers follow the BT Price List - but others don't.  Mobile providers always charge considerably more.
