Title: Postini Mark SayNo Forum Emails as Spam Post by NGMsGhost on Feb 24th, 2008 at 3:17pm
My main email addresses for my sins (mainly inertia on my part) are with Plusnet and Plusnet have recently changed email filtering arrangements from DSpam to Postini (owned I believe by Google) who have a more active Spam filtration policy.
Unfortunately Postini seems to consider update emails from the SayNoTo0870 forum as spam and so Plusnet is chucking them in my Spam filtration bucket at Plusnet. As a short measure I am going to change my email address with SayNoTo0870 to my old Freeserve (now Orange) email account but in the longer term can SayNoTo0870 do anything about Postini wrongly classing its update emails as Spam. Postini now provide spam filtering for a lot of ISPs so this seems like rather a major issue for SayNoTo0870.com |

Indeed, Postini are owned by Google - see here.
My primary email address is a Google Mail one (I still prefer to call it Gmail) and I don't think it has ever blocked any of my emails from SAYNO. I've just looked at the headers for a SAYNO email though, and it seems that because the emails are not coming from saynoto0870.com (but from noto0870@server2.rhdns.com), Postini might be getting confused and marking them as spam because the sender and return addresses don't match. |
Title: Re: Postini Mark SayNo Forum Emails as Spam Post by NGMsGhost on Feb 24th, 2008 at 11:38pm Postini assign scores to various Spam type classes and Plusnet is then interpreting the scores to give their own Spam 1, Spam 2, Spam 3, Spam 4 and Spam 5 ratings in the headers they send on to us. Basically Spam 1 stuff goes in to a customer's online IMAP spam bucket or is deleted (according to that customer's preferences) or is downloaded if they set things to still receive all spam. For whatever reasons Plusnet is interpreting the Postini scoring as being high enough for SayNoTo0870 emails to be classed as Spam 1 and thus cast in to the Spam IMAP folder. Here is an example of such a header and the Postini Spam scoring line:- Quote:
As I understand it is the very low S score (any value below 90) that causes the SayNoTo0870 email to be classed as Spam 1. |

Well, according to this page, it would appear that it is, for some reason, classifying SAYNO emails as commercial, make money fast, pornographic and racially insensitive! There is clearly something screwed up in this system, and I think you need to get on to Plusnet ASAP so they can fix it,

Title: Re: Postini Mark SayNo Forum Emails as Spam Post by NGMsGhost on Feb 25th, 2008 at 12:07am Plusnet have indicated that it is only when any of the four individual scores is below 90 that email gets classed as SPAM. Only the Commercial score is falling below 90 but in view of Daniel's (the site owner's) very dodgy choices of banner ad bedfellows on the site then perhaps this is not completely surprising. www.winthecash.co.uk (aka GrabAGrand) who are well known spammers and dodgy dealers especially spring to mind. You will note how quiet the forum now is and how long it takes for any reply to a post so I would suggest this problem of SayNoTo0870 forum emails being blocked as spam is probably quite widespread amongst the ISPs (although seemingly not affecting Orange). Perhaps Ofcom's new PR director (ex Sky) has been working hard behind the scenes to get our Update emails classified as Spam ;) ::) |

Well, that is possible, but I'm not sure that the scores will actually be dependent on the website content. Quote:
Like I said, I haven't noticed any problems with Gmail (which apparently uses a similar spam filter set up to Postini, but possibly not as advanced). Quote:
Maybe maybe :). |

Spam filters that analyse banner ads on a website with a different name to the email domain?
Ofcom banning subscribed thread emails from here? Maybe there aren't many replies because light takes a few years to reach the outer limits |
