I doubt if a geographic number can be found.  They are providing a service for which a legitimate charge is made - this is the premium element of the call price.  I looked at BT's website, they also charge for conference calls (BT Meet Me) but are rather coy about the charges, one has to register first to find out what they are. I wouldn't be surprise if BT's charges were more than what Powwownow charge through their 0870 number.

I believe that the number provides a big clue towards the number which the 0870 number directs to.

020 7990 0999 is a "voice conferencing service"
0998 "Comsay" conferencing service
0997 SPI lasers voice conferencing service
0996 Powwownow conference call number - it is not in service

Be aware that the 0870 number may direct to more than one 020 number. During busy periods they may use more than one. 0996 and 0989 are two which say that it is a Powwownow conferencing number which is not in use now.

It may be useful therefore, to continue what I've started and note those which are "Powwownow". Post what you find here as it may be of use to others. That way, if you come to set up your conference and find that 0990 is busy, you can try others.

Hi there. Any update on the powwownow situ? I ask as my bosses use this service a lot, but as they call from mobiles the costs are high using 0870's.
Any info welcome.

I'm not sure why you are asking as the number given ending 0990 is still "Powwownow Voice Conferencing Service". :-? :-?

You found no alternative for 0844 580 0555. Or to put it your way, "none worked" for it. In what way did they "not work" ???  :-? :-? ::)

What about 0844 473 7475 which was not listed in the database until now. Perhaps you could confirm what is a suitable alternative to this number.

The problem is when I use the 0207990 0990-9 numbers it does connect but refuses to recognise the PIN No. THe first 0844 473 7475 is a Open access no and the 0844 580 0555 is an enhanced no. and when you dial up both of them they sound different saying welcome to open access and other is welcome to enhanced access. So when I try the above 020 7990 0990-9 I don't get any info back saying that this is the enhanced no.

I tried 020 882 6882 but for some reason after dialing it cuts me off.

As you can see above, we looked at numbers for Powwownow a while ago.

It used to use 0870 223 3333 for its service, but this now has a message redirecting to 0844 473 7475. I cannot remember whether the 0870 number did used to answer the same as 020 7990 0990, although I listed it in the database.

Powwownow's numbers are more than just the 10 from 0990 to 0999. The 0999 number might be the last, but they go down several hundred. They answer with Powwownow's different client names. Eg 020 7990 0941 is "Highlands and Islands Enterprise Voice Conference Service".

The alternatives for 0844 473 7475 "Open Access Voice Conferencing Service" are 020 7990 0759 and 020 7990 0890.

0844 580 0555 is "Enhanced Access Voice Conferencing Service" of which 020 7990 0758, 762, 780, 791, 823, 917, 944, 949, 953, 959, 962, 967 are the same.


I have added these numbers to the database.

We have discussed this company several times before and I have joined your posting to the existing thread so as to keep it all together.

This 0844 number is listed in the database with an alternative. Have you looked?  :-?

Unfortunately, of the above, only 020 7990 0917 works and that is for the "Enhanced Access Service".

0844 473 7373 is not the "Enhanced Access Service" (not sure about 0844 580 0555), so there does not appear to be an alternative at present?  :(

However, an alternative service is offered by 03talk.com which uses only 03 numbers.

Their number is 0330 330 0330.

Suggest that conferencer callers try their service instead.

Why would anyone want to use 0844 if 03 is available?

The number 0844 580 0555 is answered by a recording which says that Powwownow's Enhanced Access Service number has changed of 0844 473 7373.

It is surely likely to be the case that there is an alternative, but more a case of one is not known to us at present.

I have put in a great deal of time on looking for alternatives for this service in the past (as the previous postings show), yet I have now personal interest; I found the numbers for others to use.

If we are to list a working alternative, then someone else will have to pick up the batten.


It may be worth pointing out that alternative conferencing services are available, some of which are discussed in the Call Providers section and use geographic or 03 numbers.

Thanks for your work Dave, I used to use these numbers which was very handy; shame they no longer work.

As for why I use them, I don't have a choice as I am dialling in to meetings booked by others...

Many numbers are easier to find than others but some take a lot more time to find. The website allows us all to share numbers we find, thus pooling our efforts.

If no one is prepared to put in the time finding those numbers that take longer to find, then we will have to be content to be without.

That said, in this case, it would appear that the company may be working to disable any published numbers.

Yes, read the previous postings on this (above) and you will see that we've listed a number of alternatives over the years and they've been disabled. If you want to look for another one, then reading the above postings might help you with clues as to where to look.
