Title: Alliance and Leicester - Debit Card Activation Post by FearMor on May 17th, 2008 at 12:49am
I ordered a new debit card from the Alliance and Leicester Bank. When I received it, I was told to ring 0845 608 8860 to confirm safe receipt which I did for 10 minutes with no reply. Your database gives the alternative number of 0800 409 6700 but when I called it, I was told it was only for opening new current accounts. Their main number on a letterhead is shown as 0151 928 8181 and I shall try that tomorrow to see if it works.

Title: Alliance & Leicester 0844 561 9779 alternative num Post by Joycemay on Jul 3rd, 2008 at 5:51pm
I know you don't like me asking but I don't understand :-[ how to find some alternative numbers, if indeed there are any, so I apologise.
I've just been asked by Alliance & Leicester to ring 0844 561 9779 to verify that I've received my new debit card so I'm after a geographical number for that. I've searched Alliance & Leicester to no avail & also checked the number too. |

I've joined you post to the existing one on A&L Debit Card Activation. To continue receiving email notifications, you will need to click here. The database has a verified number of 0800 0563253 and unverified one of 0800 0688661 for card activation. Please let us know how you get on; what works and what doesn't. |

Thank you Dave.
Hubby tried verified number you gave me 0800 0563253 & got through but it seems it wasn't the number they want you to ring them on to verify receipt of debit cards as woman seemed confused as to why he was ringing up & had to ask a selection of security numbers extra to what they would ask, she said. Hubby got 2 out of 3 wrong, silly man !! If I wasn't at hand to tell him we have a direct debit set up with A & L he'd have failed miserably as he told them we hadn't, dur !! Thank you so much. :-* |

Before you edited your post, you mentioned that the card is provided by MBNA, a fact which is probably crucial. In which case you will probably have to call them.

I edited that out Dave as it was for A&L's CREDIT CARD & I was talking about the activation of the A&L DEBIT CARD. Sorry, my mistake hence my edit. |

Alliance & Leicester are infamous on this site for "banning" people who don't call their covert premium numbers. See here.
Perhaps you need to contact customer services for current accounts. Have a look in the database and try some numbers. Do let us know which you've tried and what works and what doesn't. |

I obviously didn't make it clear in my post earlier but woman said the cards were now activated since I shouted across the room to hubby that he'd arranged a direct debit from A&L to Halifax each month, he'd forgotton.

Bump!
I know this is a bit out of date but ive just had a card with the 08445619780 number to activate it. This, incidently, is a different number to the one that was on the card when i originally got it last year (this is a replacement!), so i guess they change often! Anyway, neither number on the site works to contact. The 01904 number gets you to someone but it doesnt appear to be much use. A snippet though, they are based in Tamworth, so there number will start 01827. Hope that helps someone find the geographical number! |
