Title: 0541 Numbers Post by jimjim on Jun 25th, 2008 at 8:37am
Clearing out some old papers yesterday, came across some old RBS Credit Card statements. They were from 1998 and had the customer services number as 0541 541 800. The number is not working now, but it got me wondering , How long have NGN's been in use in the UK?

According to the 0870 Wikipedia page, "Mercury Communications Ltd (now Cable & Wireless) had a similar scheme, with its numbers beginning with 0541."
It doesn't say when the numbers were introduced, but I presume some form of NGN has been available since the start of the telephone numbering system. |

0541 numbers were migrated to 08701. So 0541 541800 became 0870 1541800.
