Title: Inland Revenue Kent Office Post by susanmoore on Jun 30th, 2008 at 9:12am
The telephone number 02392703003 is only for accountants. I tried to use the 01622 local telephone number which is on the Inland Revenue's website but it is no longer in operation.
The person I spoke to said I had to use the 08453021431 number. Just wondered if there might be another number for personal people. Thank you. |

Susan,
Although i have never had to call the Kent office I have had to call a number of tax offices and have never had a problem using the 'Agents' number. I would give it another go. |

Dave, Thank you for replying to my request. I have phoned the 02392703003 number again and again was told that I have come through to an Accountants priority telephone line!!!! I was then given the 0845 number again.

The 0239 270 3003 number is indeed a priority line for tax professionals and is listed as such on the HMRC website: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/workingtogether/priority-lines-list.htm
The HMRC had a list of "international" tax office numbers on their website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/local/individuals/international-numbers.htm but unfortunately this has now been removed. In the database there is an unverified number for Kent (physical location Portsmouth/Bournemouth) which you could try: 0239 240 1194 |

Thank you for your help with the unverified number in the database. I will call this number on Monday and report back.

I have just tried the 02392401194 telephone number and it works. You might want to change the number listed on the website to this one. Thank you so much for your help. susan

For my tax office (Cardiff), though I don't know about others, a search using the 3-digit tax office number here:
http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp?type=1 provides a number 'for calling from abroad', which works. This alternative also gives an honest engaged tone if the current queue is more than x minutes long. The 0845 number, on the other hand, has a particularly annoying reply, "sorry we can't answer your call, please try later", which of course costs me (at least) 8p. |
