Title: 0871 664 1448
Post by Kiwi_g on Jul 4th, 2008 at 6:48pm
Just received an automated call from this number (caller line identity confirms it).  Trying to inform me that my analogue TV will be useless after the switch-over.  It gave the address in Brighton together with post code but I was not able to write the details down.  I was told that if if wished to cease calls I should say STOP (which I did) They also phoned me yesterday but the phone was unanswered and no message was left.

I've done a Google search but to no avail.

Does anyone have any experience of this or is it another scam/nusance call?

BTW I also subscribe to TPS.

How did they know you had an analogue tv and not digital? Could it have been by any chance the outfit you bought the tv from?

There are three regulatory breaches involved here.

An automated marketing call without human intervention and without explicit consent (even a failure to register with TPS is not sufficient) is a breach of regulation 19 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). This should be reported to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

An unsolicited marketing call to someone registered with the TPS (even if a customer) is a breach of regulation 19 of the PECR. Again this is a matter for the ICO, not TPS Ltd.

Use of a premium rate (or even just a high cost) number as CLI is given as an example of "Persistent Misuse of a Telecommunications Network or Service" in the Ofcom Statement of Policy on use of its discretionary powers under sections 128-130 of the Communications Act. Use of an automated calling mechanism is sufficient is indicate that the misuse is "persistent"; persistence does not mean calling any one person repeatedly.

All the best!

Also your analogue tv will not be useless, you will just need a set top box, about £10

Just sent the standard complaint form to the ICO - thanks for the info SCV.

We have 2 TVs which are both less than 2 years old, both with integrated Freeview.  They replaced TVs over 10 years old.  I don't think the outfit I bought the TV from could have been involved as it was Alders (now wound up).

The company is called Sat Support based at 112-116 Western Road Brighton BN3 1DD. They call people they believe to have a sky box at home and tell them there is something wrong with the warranty.
