I've recently got a number of 0871 numbers as missed calls on my mobile. Has anyone else received similar ? I expect it is a scam so I was going to complain to the caller business address but can't find it on your search engine, any suggestions as to where to complain please ?

If it's a scam, then writing and requesting not to be called ("scammed") is pretty pointless.

Report them to PhonepayPlus (formally ICSTIS).

Not really, it is illegal to call a number registered as not to be called for marketing with http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

The fact it is illegal means action can be taken against the company or individual.

According to Phonepayplus, Ofcom are responsible for 0871 number regulation but.... they direct you back to phonepayplus useful !

Phonepayplus rang the nos for me and they just ask you to leave a number..

So on again to Ofcom !

Ah yes, sorry about that.

See how confusing it is!

In brief, last year it was proposed that 0871 would come under the "regulation" of PhonepayPlus. At the same time the proposals for reducing 0870 to geographical (01/02) rate were put forward. They were due to come into effect on 1 February 2008 but did not.

With 0870 being similar to 0871, I believe they suspended 0871 regulation.
