Title: Aberdeen Schools Information Line. Post by humlins on Aug 19th, 2008 at 2:56pm
This line is set up to allow parents and students to get information on school closures due to strikes, bad weather etc. It is accessed by dialling 0870 0541999 followed by a PIN No. which is unique to the school. The system MAY be provided by NEG.
Has anyone discovered a geographic no. alternative? |

Would this site be any help to you?............
http://www.culter.aberdeen.sch.uk/ They have a geo number and also quote the number you give. If not try the web site of the school you need and they may well have similar information. |

The system is provided by Thus - press release.
Since it could be located anywhere in the country, I suggest you contact Thus on 0800 027 5848 and ask if you can have a geographic number for the service. |

Having noted the incorrect use of the apostrophe on the home page, I'd recommend avoiding that school: HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS & LUNCH MENU'S |

In today's age, is this information not available over the internet?

Found nothing on an internet search. Getting a geographic number for the school is simple but this number will not accept the pin to access the Information Line. I've asked the school office for a geographic number but they (genuinely) couldn't help. What is needed is geographic access to the Thus system and, of course, Thus have claimed no such number exists. Maybe they are right. |

That will be because that information line system is not actually linked to the school - it is a central service. Quote:
So you've tried contacting Thus and they wouldn't give you the number? Quote:
Highly unlikely - they are just using it as an excuse to stop you calling them for free/cheaper than the 0870 call rate. |

Just to clarify, I was talking about a website giving the information on when schools are closed. This should be available over the internet and could be PIN protected, just like the phone service. However, it appears that they instead choose to charge for the service. Perhaps you could write to you local councillors about this. |
