Title: City Link Oxford Post by jrawle on Sep 23rd, 2008 at 10:31am
Does anyone know the number for City Link Oxford, which is actually in Didcot (01235)?

I love the way on their website they keep saying things such as: Quote:
Perhaps if they would give the numbers for the local branches instead of the rip-off number, people could dial the correct branch directly and it wouldn't be a problem! It also says: Quote:
The 08700 007007 number called "Customer Services" on the same page. Does anyone know if 01276 606200 is the direct equivalent of that? In the database, it's given as the alternative for the Richmond/Kew delivery area. Is it actually the number that would go through to the correct local branch? |

It is unlikely the 01 number will redirect to the local branch, as the "call routing" facility is probably set up on the 0870 number (to avoid City Link having to pay the redirection costs).

I think it's probably where you end up if you call the 0870 number from a mobile, though! I might try that, prefixing it with 141 and telling them I'm using my mobile.

Worth a try. They might be able to transfer you to your local branch, or provide the local number if you tell them your mobile keeps directing you there.

Title: Re: City Link Oxford - database incorrect Post by jrawle on Sep 23rd, 2008 at 6:20pm
When I arrived home and found the City Link card, it gave a different number, 0870 704 9672, to rearrange delivery from the "Oxford" depot. I searched the database for this, and found:
01908 280280 Milton Keynes Fax: 01908 280100 Covers various depots - (Cambridge) 0870 7049683 (Kettering) 0870 7049650 (Didcot) 0870 7049672 01908 280266 Didcot depot - Collections However, the second number just held me in a queue with music for 15 minutes, at which point I gave up. The first said their hours are until 7pm. Unfortunately, it was just after 7 as I'd wasted 15 minutes in a queue. On the card, it says they close at 8pm in Didcot. I then tried 01276 606200, and it said office hours are until 5:30pm, so that's clearly not the same number as for contacting the depot. Finally, I bit the bullet and dialled the 0870 number on the card as I had to call before 8pm to prevent them trying to re-deliver on the wrong day, and returning the goods to the sender. This led me to an automated system with very slow instructions. By interrupting the voice at times, I managed to keep the call to just under 2 minutes, so only 10p wasted. Anyway, the numbers in the database are clearly not direct alternatives to the 0870 number. 01908 280280 may be a number that can be used, but it needs a note to say it's only open until 7pm at the very least. It probably also needs re-verificaiton that it's a number people in Didcot can use to arrange collection of their parcels, rather than simply verifying that it's a City Link number. |

Well, we know that, as stated above - it's their "customer relations" number. We now know that it's not the same as the "customer services team" you need to speak to about arranging a re-delivery or collection. |

Despite having rearranged a delivery for later in the week, they decided to try again today. So I phoned during office hours to make sure they really will try a third time on the date I requested.
I was able to get through almost immediately on 01908 280280 and my query relating to Didcot was dealt with without being questioned. He did ask which depot it corresponded to, but didn't comment on the answer. It seems to be City Link's operations are quite centralised anyway. I don't think callers normally speak to someone actually at the local depot, it's either automated, or a central office. |
