Title: British heart Foundation Post by Keith on Nov 12th, 2008 at 9:07am I sent the following to the British heart Foundation. Well actually that is a lie because the web site limited me to 500 characters (Why?) so what I actually sent was a gibberish illiterate version of this: I received one of your donation bags today, which I general fill. I did notice something on the bag that concerned me. I note you use an 0844 telephone number for contact. These numbers are quite expensive, particularly for those people using inclusive packages, mobile phones or call boxes. I also note that you described the call as being charged at local rate. This is incorrect. There has not been a local rate since 2004 and 0844 numbers generally cost more than calling an ordinary geographic number to anywhere in the UK. To call such a number 'a local call' also breaches ASA and Trading Standards guidelines. I refer you to Trading Standards Institute reference 180805 which states "You should not use the term 'local rate'". This can be found under the heading 'How should I describe it in an advert' |
