Title: Calling abroad ... Post by JackCee on Nov 13th, 2008 at 7:07pm
Although many Government and Public Sector numbers over here in the UK are not geographical the following might be of interest to some of you!
I am with TalkTalk International Anytime and had cause to contact some Government agencies in Canada - from the UK, every number I called was geographical and didn't cost me anything! Before someone points-out that I prepaid for it in the TalkTalk tariff, may I just say that my £20.49 per month covers line rental and broadband - I call my eldest son in Australia and another son in Germany frequently for 'free'! |

You are quite right, you are able to choose a tariff that suits you. This highlights the problem of revenue-sharing numbers only too well. No matter what tariff one chooses, it simply isn't possible to have such numbers included. It's madness that it's possible to phone the other side of the world using inclusive calls, but that calling the local doctor's surgery or council can cost up to 10p per minute!

For example ..
While researching my family history, in addition to online investigation, I was able to call 'Library and Archives Canada', 'Library and Archives Reference and Information Services' and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police National Communication Services! All at no cost! |
