Hi folks.....
I wonder if anybody would happen to know the normal landline number for the Jobcentre Plus Enquiry line at Chester. The number is 0845 6088534.I've tried searching the net (no luck),and even asking on that number itself (even less helpful). My local jobcentre has supplied  a switchboard number of 01244 357500,but I was told they couldn't me through from there.I'm in Northwich,Cheshire and the number deals with income support, job seeker allowance enquiries, etc.
I'm not sure if the number is linked directly to a specific jobcentre in Chester (as below),or is just a number covering my area, but linked to a regional callcentre somewhere.

86 Northgate St
Chester
CH1 2JQ
Telephone: 01244 583100

City Rd
Chester
CH1 3AQ
Telephone: 01244 357500

If anyone can help,or even just put me in the right direction,I'd be genuinely grateful-I'm sick of being on hold for ages at 5p a minute at anytime, but when you're unemployed and trying to speak to a jobcente I find it especially galling!!

Thanks for listening.....Deanzo

The Department of Work and Pensions has a policy of using the revenue from its 0845 numbers to support calls to freephone numbers for others. I think you have already answered the question, but see this thread where an employee reports that the 0845 numbers do indeed go through to call centres.

If I were you, I would write to my MP about this.

If you call from a BT landline daytime calls to 0845 numbers cost 2p/min plus a 7p call set-up fee.

If you have a 18185 A/C and call via their 0808 1 703 703 freephone gateway number, calls to 0845 numbers cost ½p per minute plus a 5p connection fee at any time.
