Title: EDF Energy
Post by Barbara on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 10:36am
I know there have been requests for alternative numbers in the past without great success but, just in case there are any members, perhaps you who can help I thought I would ask.   I am looking for an alternative to 0845 601 4516.   This is apparently their department which deals with upgrades in supply and is based at Fore Hamlet, Ipswich, Suffolk IP3 8AQ so the number should begin 01473.   I have tried the alternative numbers in the database and, even when they are willing to transfer me, the staff on the 0845 number say they have such high call volumes they won't even place me in the queue!   That indicates the size of bill I would have if I try myself.   I was advised to email them which I have done a few times over the last couple of days (I was giving a slightly incorrect email address initially by Customer Services) but have heard nothing at all.   Any help would be gratefully received.

EDF's Regional PR team is:

East of England, Midlands & North East
01473 266 484

(From this PDF.)

Whilst probably not the number you want, it might be a clue as to the number range they use in those offices IF it's a direct extension.

Thanks, I'll give that a try but the problem is I've already tried a number where the people will transfer me but the target department won't take anyone else into the queue, refusing an attempt by another member of EDF staff!   I'm happy (up to a point) to queue on a geo no as it won't cost me anything but my time but not on an 0845 hence needing the geo equivalent of the 0845.

Barbara, have a look here   http://www.edfenergy.com/products-services/for-your-home/customer-services/contact-us-phone.shtml

There are loads of 0800 numbers.

A thread on EDF with an Ipswich number is here, although it dates back to 2004.

Another request for EDF East of England is here with an 020 number on the end.

Thank you all for your help.  I tried the man from the 2004 thread with the Ipswich no who still works there & agreed to get a Team Leader or someone else from Maintenance to call me tomorrow morning to arrange the work which is also free in the Eastern Region.   Thanks, Sherbert, I had tried numbers from that list but all they could do was transfer me to Networks who advised me to email Maintenance who won't reply!   On other 0800 numbers & one from the database here, people were willing to try & transfer me but the Maintenance dept was overloaded with calls so the transfer attempts failed.   Obviously, there is a problem with staffing in Maintenance......or they're trying to increase profits from the 0845!   I'll let you know if this works but the poor man I spoke to could now get all our calls!

Further to my previous post, I did not receive a phone call but a very garbled email in response to my previous emails which basically contradicts itself (upgrades are free but sometimes we charge) & promising a letter & form (I assume the technical & incomprehensible one!) which, of course, have not arrived.   They gave a contact number (0845 601 4516) 7 also a fax no. which is 01473 294 401;  I have tried ringing nos around that - 294 400 & 294 000 do not exist, 294 402 & 294 403 ring but no one answers.   Anyone have any ideas as to how I can work out the geo tel no from the fax no?   Or does anyone have a tel no for that fax no?   Thank you for any help you can give.

Barbara, have you tried faxing them with your request? As this is a geo number may be this is the way, and asking them to do what you want and to ring you back confirming or even faxing back....Just a thought.

Or may be the other alternative is to switch to a supplier that has a geo. number....if there is one!!! :) ;)

Thanks, Sherbert, I had already emailed & I have this morning emailed again & got the requested call back from them (as an aside, it is SUCH a complicated & lengthy process to request an upgrade involving forms to be completed by electricians & I had been told it was simple!), they have agreed to email the form (I don't have fax at the moment, to be installed later this week).  Also, this is not a supplier issue but dealt with by the network provider over whom, of course, you have no choice &, as most problems arise from network shortcomings, "choice" is a very hollow word in this area!  The person who rang me said she only had an 0845 no (I had thought if they had a geo fax, there would be an underlying geo tel no?) so my best hope is to ring one of the freephones & ask to be transferred.   Thanks again for the help, I'm beginning to wonder if I should just give up on refitting the bathroom if it's this much trouble!
