The geographic number kindly provided is for the LOCAL Jobcentreplus which does not handle benefit claims. I am looking for a geographic number in Crawley for the AREA office covering benefits in Sussex - it is in James Watt Way.

If you have a BT land line and depending on which package you are on, this 0845 number is 'free' up to 60 minutes.
Have you tried telephoning the number I gave you and ask them what it is? |

I do not have a BT landline. My landline (and my mobile) charge the earth for 0845 calls which is why I am so happy with SAYNOTO0870.
I rang the number you provided for JobCentrePlus Crawley at the address you gave and the switchboard operator there told me to ring the 0845 number at the address I listed. The first deals with JOBS the second is an area office dealing with benefits. |

Well I have searched and searched for another number for you, and unless somebody else cleverer than myself [smiley=wink.gif](not difficult) can find an alternative, I guess you are stuck with the 0845 number

Thanks for this - I think the information must be TOP SECRET. Jobcentreplus provided 1st class postage paid addressed envelopes so I have written to them : they will have to spend longer dealing with this in writing that they would have on the 'phone. It's a shame goverment departments meant to help the poor and disabled find it necessary to charge so much for telephone calls.

I believe that we have found very few (if any) alternatives for Jobcentres. DWP rips off benefits claimants and the unemployed.
I suggest that you write to your MP about this. |

Apologies for reopening such an old thread (though nothing has changed since then) - Google found this for me.
The call centre for Benefits Agency (or whatever they're called this week) is in Liverpool; I haven't tried but I suspect that all their numbers end up in the same place. They say (and it could be - but probably isn't - true) that there are no direct lines to any of the offices, though it's quite possible the call centre staff don't know any numbers but their own. Regarding the address of the "Worthing Benefit Cenntre" in Crawley, it's actually a PO Box - the actual address given is in fact the Royal Mail sorting office. You might be better handing any letters to the staff in the Job Centre itself, though I think they send their internal post by three-legged donkey, judging by the time it takes. |
