The RAC freephone number for disabled drivers is 0800 731 1173, but a mobile can attract a lengthy charge from the Provider. Anyone know what their geog tel no is please?

You can use a call-through number - 020 0222 0700 / 020 0222 0900 / 01229 33 0800 (www.0800buster.co.uk)

As per jgxenite's post, you can call the 0800 number for the same price as a geographical call using one of these dial through numbers. This is useful in general for calling freephone (0500/0800/0808) from your mobile, where you don't have access to a landline. You can store the full number your phone by using the pause function: eg 02002220700p08007311173 I use the 'p' to represent pause. This will vary depending on your handset manufacturer. Alternatively, we have a direct alternative for the main breakdown number 0800 828282 which is 01922 436000. There is a thread on this number here. What is special about this 0800 731 1173 number? Obviously both breakdown numbers operate 24/7, but how is it different? Maybe they will deal with your call on the above 01922 number. In any case, I suggest that you carry the 0800 number with you just in case there is a problem using these unpublished and unofficial numbers. You don't want to find that in an emergency that they've taken them out of service. |

Does anyone have the landline number for them as the only time I need it is when I am away from home with my Mobile - and my mobile charges (extortionately) for 08800 / 0500 "freephone" numbers

As has been mentioned previously, the dial-through geographical numbers for use from mobiles are 020 0222 0900 and 020 0222 0700. Using one of these will allow calls to 0800/0808/0500 so-called "freephone" numbers. Charges will be as geographical calls, thus will often reduce the cost from mobiles.
Dial one of these numbers and press the green phone off the hook button (or its equivalent on your phone). Once it answers, it will ask you to input the destination number. Enter the 0800/0808/0500 number but do not press the green off hook button again (as that will initiate a second call to the 0800 number which is what you're trying to avoid). |
