I wish people would stop using 0845 numbers gone are the days when national uk calls cost more than local calls; which was the reason they were introduced..........

Have you tried ringing your surgery out of hours? Sometimes they will divert you to the out of hours service, so you'll only pay the cost of call to the surgery.

I've had a look around and can't find any alternative unfortunately.

With this being an 0845 number, it is less likely that GPs will stand to the cost and divert their numbers to it. However, that doesn't mean that they definately won't. If you can find a GP who does, then this could be one alternative.
