Title: IPFAS (Independant Penalty Fares Appeals Service)
Post by Ellie2758 on May 20th, 2009 at 3:37pm
This is the body that you appeal to if you have been incorrectly issued with a Penalty Notice whilst travelling by rail.  This happened to my daughter at the beginning of May - she travelled on a train from an unmanned station with no ticket machine.

I have checked for  this on the site but cannot find an alternative.  Bad enough that they incorrectly issue my disabled daughter with a Penalty Notice twice in one year.  it 's rubbing salt into the wound that I have to ring an 0870 number to find out why they  havent responded to her appeal within the 10 days that they state that they will.

0870 1660256

thanks

Ellie

What's the address? Do they have a geographical fax or textphone/minicom number? Is there a website and/or email address for them?

Read the following (scroll down to "rail") which gives information when an appeal may be accepted:
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/travel/public_transport.htm
It deals with disabled passengers.

Read also the relevant posting on Martin Lewis's site:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=228562
This posting (admittedly from 2006) gives the following information:

You need to phone Revenue Protection Support Services for advice.
P.O. Box 89, Portsmouth, PO1 1EG
Tel: 023 8072 8950
Fax: 023 8072 8904

If you dont get anywhere with them you can appeal against the penalty fare within 21 days of issue to.
Independent Penalty Fares Appeals Service
P.O. Box 14697, London, SE1 8ZJ
Appeals can only be dealt with in writing or online.
