I have just had my AA renewal forms.

They have made this announcement

'We have added 2 national rate phone numbers to useful contact information  as we appreciate that some mobile phone tarriffs may charge extra for calling 0800 & 0870 numbers.'

This number is already listed alongside 0845 788 7766 and 0800 887766, all of which are official numbers published by the AA for breakdown callouts and answer with the same IVR.

We also had listed for breakdown 0191 223 7008 /09 /11 /12, but these are ones that have been found to be answered directly by operators. As they're unofficial, they could be disabled at any times.

The official ones are far more likely to remain in service, even if the AA chooses not to promote them anymore, for example, if it  introduces new ones.

The reliability factor comes into play here and I'm not happy about listing these others, especially when there are more suitable alternatives that answer identically.

This number, 0870 544 4444, 0800 435980 (shown on my renewal notice of December 2007 as being for "Membership enquiries") and 0800 9756171 all answer with the same "Membership enquiries" IVR and I have now listed them in one entry.

I have removed unofficial numbers we have which are 0191 223 7071 and 0161 495 8945, both of which answer with an identical IVR (but not the same as the 0870 544 4444 etc) which identify them as "Membership enquiries".
