I have a request for my local surgery. Lots of people around me complains about the 08xx number and pointed out that it is illegal for surgeries to use those numbers. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to obtain alternatives.

ADRESS:

 Wiltshire BA14 7EH

08xx NUMBER:
 0844 477 8952

I look forward to hearing from you guys!

Look around the surgery for direct telephone numbers for staff. These surgeries seem to have a block of consecutive numbers and reception/main menu is often the first in the sequence.

Further to this, the menu isn't always the first in the sequence.

The first thing that strikes me about this one if that they are using a premium rate service 0871 number for faxes. Aside from breaking DH rules, other members may be able to advise how this should be promoted with regards the PhonepayPlus regulations; displaying pricing information etc. I cannot see any pricing guidance on the home page that lists it.

I raise this because I was looking to see if the fax number is a geographical number, and whether it is part of the main range which would lead us to the main menu.

Not to worry, a search of the Roundstone website for 01225 reveals the complementary therapies page which gives contact number 01225 759861. I tried 759860, rings no answer.

Bingo! 01225 759850 answers with the familiar voice of these phone systems saying that "You are now connected to the Roundstone Surgery."  ;D

I've listed this in the database for others to use.  :)

From: http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/upload/0871_brochure_10.pdf

Quote:
Wherever your 087 number appears it should be accompanied by its pricing information. This includes everything from websites and print promotions, to listings and van liveries. Pricing information must be clear, close to the telephone number and prominent. In the short term, PhonepayPlus will accept a spoken message, explaining the tariff, at the beginning of every call as an alternative, though we expect everyone to change their collateral as soon as is practically possible.

Since they took over regulation on 1st August, and they were pushing the regs for some considerable time beforehand, I'd expect that "in the short term" won't have long to live!
