Title: 084- charging Post by pepperrell on Oct 21st, 2009 at 2:50pm
This from Halifax's website about Customer Complaints
*Calls from BT landlines to 0845 numbers will cost no more than 2p a minute plus a 7p connection fee. The price of calls through other phone companies and from mobile phones will be different. The call price we have quoted was correct in September 2008. What happened to the 4p a minute for 084 and 8p a minute for 087? >:(http://www.saynoto0870.com/forum/Templates/Forum/default/angry.gif |

Call rates are dependent on telephone provider and tariff and not defined by the user of the number such as Halifax. Therefore, any pricing information they give, cannot be taken as gospel.

Thank you, Moderator Dave.
Do BT have a monopoly on operating such numbers, or can anyone do it? And does anyone provide bundles that include non-geographical non-premium numbers? Or do a small number do it and only for 03** numbers? http://www.saynoto0870.com/forum/Templates/Forum/default/huh.gif |

No need for the formalities ("Moderator") here. ;) Different telephone companies operate different 0845 numbers. The same goes for any other types of numbers. As an example to illustrate what I mean, the most common type you may recognise are mobile numbers. Different mobile telephone operators have different 07xxx numbers. Eg O2 07802, Vodafone 07785 etc. Same goes for 0845 numbers and same goes for 03xx numbers. Is this what you are referring to? Remember, the charge for all 0845 numbers (operated by different providers) are the same from any one (originating) telephone provider such as BT, Talk Talk, Virgin Media, and Vodafone. The rate is often quoted from a BT line probably because BT has the biggest originating telephone company. |

All 084 numbers carry a premium. They are not "Premium Rate Services" as regulated by PhonepayPlus, hence some users may claim that they are not premium rate. |
