Title: East Coast
Post by CGJ on Nov 25th, 2009 at 11:05pm
National Express have just been replaced by East Coast and their previous numbers have now disappeared from this site. I believe they are still the same as before so can anyone help please?

Hi and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

I removed all the entries for National Express East Coast last week, as I posted here, as all the geographicals are now defunct.

The head office address for East Coast is:

East Coast House
25 Skeldergate
York
YO1 6DH

The "group travel" geographic is 0191 259 8089. Why not try some numbers around that (8080, 8000)?

Note: I posted the above without realising Dave had checked them and they're now out of service. According to National Rail, East Coast's customer services is still in Newcastle, and they haven't changed their website to say otherwise (like I say, still advertising the above geographic and geographic fax also used by NXEC).

What the heck is going on? It's definitely bad form to not bother updating your details when you move!

The numbers previously used by NXEC that I removed are now back in service and working.  :-/

I have restored the entries as they were, just with the new "East Coast" name.  ;)

None of the numbers listed for East Coast works (any more, it seems). Any alternative suggestions would be most welcome.

"None of the numbers listed […] works" in what way or ways?  :-?

Are they not recognised, never answered, answered but the person won't deal with the call etc?  :-?

Apologies. Upon calling, there is no ringing tone but the phone hangs up almost immediately. I tried the official 0845 number and it worked fine (even if the department was closed, it being Sunday).

Ah right, being closed might explain it then; try it again tomorrow when they are open and let us know how you get on.  ;)

Thanks, I will - but I don't think those numbers work at all as there was no ringing whatsoever (I mentioned the 0845 number just to show that I had checked that they didn't have a problem with their entire switchboard!).

I can't say for certain, but it is perhaps the case that the closed message you heard is based on the 0845 number. The 0845 number 'tried' the 0191 number and got the response you did. As a result of this, it played the closed message.

When the office staff leave, maybe they log off their phones, which results in all incoming calls direct to their 0191 numbers getting unobtainable (or whatever response you're getting - I'm not near a phone so I can't try it). This maybe tells the 0845 number to put the 'closed' sign up, as it were.

I believe I have been along this road or track before. I previously removed all these numbers one Monday evening last November as I found them to be unobtainable. It was just after National Express East Coast gave up its franchise and I'd gone to change the name of the company on the database entries. I figured that the change in ownership might have been the reason for the numbers stopping working; perhaps they'd moved offices.

A week later someone requested the numbers and pointed out their disappearance and the fact that they still worked (the first post on this thread). I re-instated them after finding that they did in fact work during office hours.

Try them out tomorrow and let me know by posting on this thread. It might be a good idea to add a note to them saying that they (the 0191 numbers) go unobtainable when they are closed.

I've just tried the verified entries we have for East Coast, and only 0191 259 8089 is unobtainable, and this is on its contact page as an "overseas" number for Group Travel (and listed in our database for the same type of enquiry).

0191 227 5959/60 are for ticket sales and they currently (Sunday evening) go through to a message saying that someone will answer soon. 0191 259 8087 was answered now as "Web Support".  :-?

I'm still getting the automatic hang-up in all cases from my 02 mobile, which is all I've got. I'll try again tomorrow, but if this continues it may well be my problem and not that of anyone here - though I've not had this when attempting to call any other numbers. Thank you for your help so far!

Just to confirm that all these numbers rang as normal (and were answered) today. Next time I'll try on a weekday first, although I don't know why you were able to get through yesterday and I couldn't. Thank you again!

Thanks for the feedback. I've added notes beside each number to say that it is unobtainable when closed.
