Can anyone help with a `real` telphone number for this recruitment agency listed as Cheshire/Manchester, their `give us some money number` is 0844 504 0223.

Do you have more information? Where is it listed? Does it just say they are in "Cheshire/Manchester" with no address? Is there no website?  :-?

Oh, and what about the other request you posted where I found a couple of numbers for you and asked you to let me know how you went on so I can list them for others to use if they work successfully?  :-?

If you google this company they come up with a contact page which lists office at:-

Northwich, Knutsfrod, Winsford
Manchester/Atrincham
Crewe/Stoke/Middlewich
Warrington

But they all show the same 0844 number even head office. The only address I can find for them was P.O Box 362, Northwich, Cheshire CW8 1WB.

Yes, the other numbers you gave me were of great help, apologies if I should have replied to you, but I find this site so difficult to use, every page is so cluttered, it could be so much better if it were made asy to use. If you search for a number and it comes straight up that is easy, but it is the posting of help requests were it gets complicated.

The local dialling code is 01606. Some web pages give 0870 7777883 for them and this has a recording saying that due to Ofcom changes, they have changed this "national rate" (sic) 0870 number to a "local rate" (sic) 0844 504 0223 number.  ::)

It would appear that this company has been using cover premium numbers for a while now, masquerading them as "national" or "local" rate.  :-X

I have Googled various terms and been unable to find an alternative.  :-/

From what I can find, I think that the registered address, 4 Stonecroft, is a residential area, probably quite new as looking at it on Google Maps it appears to be a construction site.

So all we have is a PO Box.  :-/

Winnington Hall's website is www.winningtonhall.co.uk and the picture of the building on the homepage is the same as the one on Howard James' contact page.

So now we have the physical address of the Howard James offices! The main phone number for Winnington Hall is 01606 784171 and fax is 01606 74873, as given on its contact page. Maybe they can put calls through to Howard James/My Local Job Board or maybe they can give the proper 01606 number for their office.

Thanks for all your help, this really is a cloak and dagger operation and usually I avoid them like the plague, but they rang to say they have a job they want to discuss and being out of work, you have to chase down every lead.

The only lead as far as an number other than 0844 is a mobile number on the contact page given as out of hours contact number.

The Howard James Organisational Chart shows Howard Forster as the managing director at the top, with that same mobile number for contact. It also gives an e-mail address for him.

It may be a real company, but the use of 0844 demonstrates cluelessness so typical of UK organizations. Presumably, as a recruitment agency, it would be reasonable to expect that you would, on occasion, need to be contacted by potential clients and candidates living,. working or traveling overseas. The use of 0844 numbering shows little thought given to international inbound traffic. The use of 0844 also demonstrates a lack of any consideration given to callers from cellular phones. Have you, Mr Foster, ever called a 08X number from a cellular device and subsequently examined the bill? Perhaps you simply have a corporate-provided phone and call costs are irrelevant. The use of 0844 by your organization is unnecessary. Sadly, it appears that the bandwagon has struck, and the sheep have followed. Why not be different for a change?

The choice of numbers by your organization indicates a great deal about your operation. Essentially, shaft the client.

I further note that you do indeed advertise your rip-off scam 0844 numbers in international format:

Pathetic!!! You need to be aware, despite what your telecom provider may tell you, that there is absolutely no guarantee that such calls can be made from foreign networks. If you don't believe me, then I suggest you call the regulator Ofcom.
