Following the collapse of the airline Globespan that has gone into administration leaving people with out flights at home and abroad, they have very kindly given out this message

A helpline for passengers is now operational and can be contacted on 0871 271 9000.

That should help people's tempers having to pay to find out information through no fault of their own!!!!!! :exclamation [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

The 0141 number is available and could therefore be promoted for use from the UK, but they specifically provide the 0871 number for calls from the UK.

Near the bottom of the page it gives contact numbers for other carriers and they are all 0871!  ::)

They appear to have had a rethink, around the middle of the page you linked to;-

"Two helplines have been set up for passengers due to the number of calls received.

They are 0141 332 3233 and 0131 466 7612."

The 0871 number was the one the company used when it was trading. The administrator took over and issued it within hours of doing so.

It was totally unintentional that they issued a premium rate number and when made aware of it, it was revoked and the geographical numbers given out. In this case the BBC still continued to promote the 0871 number, but as derrick says, this has since been removed from the article.

When an administrator takes over, it's understandable that what telephone number issued is rather down the list of priorities. It's often the number that the company used when it was trading, probably because the staff will have to take calls from customers and they will be in the same office as before the administrator took over.
