Title: Magic FM
Post by floella2 on Jan 9th, 2010 at 4:26pm
Magic FM was on in the car the other day. The DJ gave out their 0871 scam number, mentioned that calls from other networks will be significantly more, then said 'its not our fault, blame your network provider'

What a muppet!

That would be like blaming car dealerships for selling luxury motors at far higher prices than a common make like Ford. Of course, the price difference has nothing to do with the manufacturer...  ::)

Not quite. BT are restrained by regulations from taking a proper margin on these calls - that is why their rates are artificially low. There are however some providers who crank up the premium to way beyond what gets passed on to the company that gives Magic FM a good deal on their telecoms.

We (at least I) hope that Ofcom will lift the constraints on BT and impose a limit on the level of the markup (over the cost of a geographic call) that all providers may impose.
